"I can imagine nothing we could do that would be more relevant to human welfare, and nothing that could pose a greater challenge to the next generation of psychologists, than to discover how best to give psychology away." - George Miller (1969)
The Identity Project: A Guide To Understanding Yourself
Tsybina & Cowherd (2026)
Spring 2025 – Present
Overview: Alongside my colleague Daria Tsybina, I am co-authoring and publishing an empirically grounded self-help workbook for college students navigating identity and purpose. What began as a project in PSY 312: Memory and Mind has grown into a full-length work. We are now writing six substantive chapters grounded in contemporary cognitive science, paired with a variety of interactive activities designed to make the material more personal.
To bring the workbook to a wider audience, Daria and I also built and launched PsychedWorkbooks.com, the platform where the workbook will be formally published. Anticipated publication is Fall 2026.
Terry and the Digital Forest
Cowherd, Chavez, Sanchez, & Flanagan (2025)
Overview: Terry and the Digital Forest was a storybook created in PSY 206: Cognitive Psychology, to help children and their parents understand the affordances and limitations of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in a compelling way. By incorporating empirical research on [Artificial/Human] intelligence into a adventerous, age-appropriate story, we effectively created a psychosocial intervention aimed at changing beliefs and cognitions.

Memory, Meaning, & You
Cowherd, Reed, Tsybina, & Abdil (2025)
Overview: Memory, Meaning, & You was a first-draft book created in PSY 314: Memory and Mind, to help adolescents and college-aged individuals build a coherent and positive sense of self. Our project builds on theories from cognitive neuroscience and clinical psychology, such as neuroconstructive perspectives of identity, creativity, and intelligence, as well as identity theory from a sociocultural perspective. This project is undergoing significant revisions to (a) tailor it to a wider audience, (b) incorporate more adaptive storytelling, and (c) leverage semiotics and graphic design principles to enhance the visibility and marketability of the book.
